Directions:

Throughout the course, as we discussed various topics, you have considered how what we

we?re studying influences your development as an individual: what makes you, ?you.? Additionally,

we added another piece of the psychological puzzle by looking at how social factors

influence individual development and behaviors.

As we approach the end of the course, let?s step back and look at the big picture. To prepare

for this assignment, look back on everything you?ve learned through the course

materials: textbook, discussions, quizzes, etc. Start by brainstorming ideas such as what do you think

has contributed to you becoming who you are today (and maybe what will influence who you become in

the future) and what influences the way you behave: the actions you take?and don?t take? Also, extend

that to think about what factors (even if they did not directly affect you ) contribute to how other individuals develop, for example, your family members, your co-workers and classmates, your neighbors, the people you pass on the street and see in the news.

Your task for this assignment is to answer the following question in a five paragraph paper:

What shapes who each individual becomes and how they relate to others?

As you explore this question, think about all the things we?ve studied: physiology, the effects

of personal experiences and learning, influences on thinking and emotions, perceptions, and the

latest contribution to the puzzle?other people and social cultures. How does all that come

together to help shape an individual and their sense of who they are? As much as you can,

connect your thoughts with what you?ve learned this semester by using appropriate terms and

supporting your arguments by referencing what you?ve learned. Make sure to review the rubric as a guide to writing your paper.
